The whole tour was planned and organised excellently. Urska and Yuki were ever ready to attend to our queries and concerns and addressed them. All destinations visited were accompanied by guided tours, done by locals. Hotels and breakfasts were overall good. Our driver, Dube, has been tirelessly taking us to every destinations and whenever time permits, he showed us extra places that were off plan. Shared our experience with family and friends back home. They are interested and we strongly recommended to them. The only 4 stars would be the hotel in Mostar. While still very good, it would be the low of all the hotels in the tour.
I just completed a 16 day, 7 countries tour with my friend, a former work colleague and fellow traveller on many previous trips. The booking process was generally smooth and Urŝka from The Balkan Tours created an itinerary of several cities, a minimum of 14 with a 2 to 3 hour walking tour in each one, led by a local guide. We did our own trek through Plitvice National Park. Our guide/ driver was Nemanya, a funny, considerate, organised, knowledgeable fellow who was also amenable to some of our ideas along the way. As we were only 2 in the tour, we rode in a comfortable Skoda car. The guides were friendly, enthusiastic and a fountain of knowledge (except for one towards the end of the tour where we could have just used a map and some history notes ourselves). The Zagreb, Sarajevo, Mostar, Skopje and Tirana guides were exceptional. Hotels were in great locations, though room size varied that was not an issue except some rude service in Opatija that was reported to the agency. The list of cafes and restaurants was useful. Highlights were numerous. Some were Lake Bled, Postojna caves, (an up down 2 kms walk inside with train tour), The churches and monasteries, especially St Neum, and general scenery of the Croatian coastline. Sarajevo museums are viewed with silence and reflection. All of the entrances were included but the Dubrovnik pass was wasted due to lack of time. I would also have preferred less touring to some towns to allow time to access museums and art galleries in others. I came away with an improved knowledge of history, archaeology, the interplay of religion, cultures and politics and some very sombre moments of reflection in Mostar and Sarajevo. Considering we are 2 mature ladies, carrying old sports injuries, we managed the walks, slopes and steps, perhaps not at a fast pace, but as Nem said "with great stamina". Thanks to Urŝka and the team. I recommend this tour.
